In this portfolio and journal i will break down all the work or atleast the work that is intresting in the process of this albums creation
much of my work on this album has been inspired by my good friend, and my production mentor Wade. Wade has introduced me to so many production consepts and taught me so much. THey create such a clean and yet powerful sound from so little. One of many scrapped tracks of the album was called a fire that never was because we never finished it and it would have been so good, instead of this song being on the album I wrote a sad interlude in its place while keeping the name as it was fitting, this song was created with the primary emotion i tryed to elisit being meloncoly, and home sickness, Inspired by moving away from all my friends and family to persue music.
This is a track break down of the 11th song on the album it was one that I was obsessed with working on for most likely over 20 hours I spent as much time as possible on this song and it turned out way over produced yet I like it.
Smash the lens is one of the wierdest songs that i made for the album.
I have a very inconsistant work flow I will work on music at anytime and any place, so this album is very sparatic in its tone and ideas
Because this is such a large volume of work I struggle to document the process of creation I would much rather answer questions to explain each detail of a song then try to break it down over all.
Due to the way i create my music the mixing step is completed as i create the song yet where still tweeks I had to do. I put the tracks into mono and mixed them to sound good in mono, this helps the master process.
the last step in the process was the master, I had never mastered anything before so it was a very new exprience for me trying to balance out the tracks
I used a very unautherdox aproch to the mastering process I mastered through 3 different sound systems;
I started the by exporting all the tracks into a lossless format, just to make the process easier I didnt want to master each song sperate to each other so I could compare and make sure they sound relitavely cohiesive.
In this ableton file i used a compressor to bring them all upto the same volume and i also used individual EQs on each song that i would slowly tailor to each track. I avoided making anylarge freq cuts or any changes over 3db to keep the original sound and balance
I then used my laptop speakers to try to make it sound good through them this requiered mostly a focus on the low end eq and making sure it the bass was the right volume.
I then took my laptop in the my car and used the aux to connect my computer up and did a final check even though i made no agustments.
